Aliaksandr Alesin Released On Recognizance, Treason Charges Dropped

The journalist was released today; he reported that the charges of treason had been dropped, which allowed to be freed on his own recognizance, however, he is still being accused of cooperation with foreign special services.

Article 356 of the Criminal Code brought against him (“cooperation with special services, security or intelligence service of another state”) envisages an arrest up to six months or up to two years in custody.

Aliaksandr Alesin said: “I think this is a hospital pass from those with him I cooperated. Openly or not, I’ve been thrown over the bridge. I did not do anything illegal, I took information from open sources.”

The journalist neither confirmed nor denied that he had been arrested after seeing a foreign diplomat. “This is close to truth,” he said.

He still has only the lawyer assigned to him by the state, but is thinking of hiring his own one. He is going to have a rest until Monday, and then set to work for the newspaper Belorusy I Rynok as earlier.
