Aliaksandr Alesin Charged with Treason
KGB officials say the journalist can be released from the detention center through health condition. A foreign diplomate is also involved as the main figurant of the case.
The journalist's daughter informed the media that she had had a phone call from the KGB today. Aliaksandr Alesin, journalist of Belorusy i Rynok, miitary affairs analyst, is charged with article 356 "State treason" and article 256, part 1 "Revealing a state secret to a foreign state, organisation ro a representative, or spying.
The article envisages 7 to 15 years in prison.
Alongside with this, a diplomate of a foreign state is involved, whose name is unknown to the public. Accordin toi the journalist's daughter, the dimplomate has not been arrested thanks to diplomatic immunity.
The relatives don't know yet if the journalist has seen the lawyer, they don't keep in touch with the defender.
The daughter asked if the family could help with hiring a lawyer by themselves; the KGB official replied it possibly made no sense, because the journalist could be released under recognizance because of his health condition. Volha Alesina said her father had heart problems.
It became known that alesin was detained on November 25. The same day the KGB conducted searches at his home, asked to pick up personal belongings for him.
