Police Prevented Journalists from Entering an Open Trial

On May 6, journalists Volha Chaychyts and Aliaksandra Dynko came to cover an administrative trial over an activist Mikalay Dziamidzenka, but were stopped on entrance by police.

The journalists showed their press credentials, but this did not help – the police officers behaved in a rude way and refused to introduce. Around half an hour later, they were able to get to the open hearing, after the court deputy chair intervened – he copied information from their press cards and ordered the officers to let the journalists in. They are going to file a complaint against unlawful actions of the policemen.

The activist Mikalay Dziamidzenka was detained a day before and was sentenced to 20 days’ arrest.
