“Free Ales!” – demonstration in Istanbul
Participants of the 38th Congress of FIDH started in Istanbul on May 23 with a demosntration for release of political prisoners Ales Bialiatski, Vice-President of FIDH, and Nabeel Rajab, Deputy Secretary General of FIDH.
“After the opening event of the first day was over, participants in the Congress marched along the streets of Istanbul chanting the slogans “Freedom for Ales!” and “Freedom for Nabeel!” They also demanded to release the Turkish journalists and human rights defenders, currently in prisons on political grounds,” says Viasna’s deputy chairman Valiantsin Stefanovich, who represents Belarus at the Congress.
