Belarusian Detainee in Dnepropetrovsk Gets a Lawyer

The Belarusian detainee, journalist for Russian TV Stepan Chirich is in temporary detention center in the Dnepropetrovsk chief police department, reports TUT.by.

Belarusian embassy representatives in Kyiv are going to visit the detainee very soon.

The spokesperson for the security services of the Dnepropetrovsk region Igor Volovok told in an interview to TUT.by that Stepan Chirich was suspected of smuggling special devices for secret obtaining of information. While being detained the detainee was wearing special camera-glasses with which he had been filming administrative buildings in the city of Pershotravensk, Dnepropetrovsk region.  Stepan Chirich already has a lawyer. A resident of Lugansk city, who was detained together with Chirich, was set free; he is a witness for now.

The detainee’s sister told neither she nor their parents knew any details of the situation. The detainees friend published on Facebook a notice that he was alright and waiting for help.

We remind that on the morning April 24 Ukrainian media published information that “two Russian saboteurs were detained  with special equipment clearly indicating they were from the intelligence services.”

According to the Ukrainian TV news service, the people were detained within the campaign “Catch a separatist”. They looked suspicious for city dwellers that saw them walking around the city and taking view of the city with hidden cameras, says the news report.
